Summer Gallery Crawl in the Cutural District

packed!

The Cultural District has been organizing these gallery crawls for the past few years – I have made it down town for a few of these friday evening events and it is always a great and interesting time.  All of the Gallerys along and near Penn Avenue open their doors and put out a spread of snacks.  Since it is July and warm enough to be outside I think that tomorrow’s Gallery Crawl will be extra fun with lots of outdoor activities too.

Share Your PGH Photos HERE!

yourphotoshere

You may have noticed a new look for IheartPGH recently – we are trying to make the site easier to use and easier to find more information that you might be looking for about Pittsburgh.  We have long wanted to show off more great pictures of this fine city!  The front page here and the side bar are now displaying photos from the IheartPGH Flickr Group.  If you are a Flickr user please join the group and share your photos!  Currently the box on the front pages displays the most recent photo – I am trying to find a way to have it display a slide show and include more information about who took the photo too.

If you have any other ideas on how we can improve IheartPGH please share or if you are a webdesigner who would like to help us with a new wordpress theme we would love to talk to you too!

Born in Pittsburgh – Chalkbot is Making a Mark on the Tour de France

OMG! I want my own chalkbot.
Image by Mike Monteiro via Flickr

A few weeks ago the folks at DeepLocal sent me an email about Chalkbot – I took a look at the link to the web page about the robot and thought it was pretty interesting as they are often working on interesting projects. Fast forward a few weeks and the folks from DeepLocal and chalkbot have made the trip to Europe for the Tour de France. (I am really interested to know how one gets a robot to Europe).

Chalkbot as on commenter on CrunchGear put it is “a chalkjet printer, mega-sized and towed by a pick-up truck! Awesome!” Nike has taken chalkbot from Pittsburgh to the Tour de France to print out messages in chalk that users can submit on their website.

To see some great pictures of Chalkbot in action check out their twitpic photos and follow along on Twitterwww.twitter.com/chalkbot. You can also follow the Cahlkbot via DeepLocal’s David Evans who is blogging from France here – http://francebot.tumblr.com/ (Hi David!).

Here are the folks from DeepLocal talking about Chalkbot

Check out some of the early Chalkbot tests here –http://chalkbot.wordpress.com/. More coverage of Chalkbot from BikePgh and Pop City Media. Continue reading
