More Black and Gold from the Blogs

Pittsburgh Steelers logoImage via Wikipedia

I have tried to stop blogging about this Super Bowl fun but each time I come back to my computer I find more that I think is worth sharing. I apologize if you are an IheartPGH reader and not a Steelers fan, I am assuming most of you love the Steelers, but if football isn’t your thing just hang in there for a few more days.

The DVE Morning Show is has been posting updates from Tampa on Twitter – twitter.com/dveradio

From Out of the ‘Burgh, In the Pitts this Pittsburgher in Texas writes about an Arn-Free Super Bowl – they  can’t find any Iron City Beer in in Texas – they were even willing to pay $60 to have it shipped to Texas but aparently you can’t ship beer to Texas. Any Texans have some extra Iron City to share.

Even NullSpace has an Obligatory Steelers Post with some interesting Steelers info – including a link to the story behind the steel logo on the Steeler’s helmets.

YNZnNYC is so excited for Sunday he can’t sit still.

The Ligonier Valley Library is decked out in Black and Gold.

The New York Times Freakonomics Blog gives 10 reasons to Like the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Steel Curtain Rising has posted a meeting spot for Steelers Fans in Beunos Aires to watch the game.

In case you missed it, PittGirl is back blogging about the Steelers on Have A Good Sandwhich. The Trib PM has an article about the return of PittGirl (MattH and I are both quoted in the Trib article).

Steelers Cats – Cute with Chris is a weekly podcast about cute things – cats puppys and other cuteness – please note that some of this is cute but peppered with adult humor – Cute with Chris is not cute for kids. He shared these steeler cats pictures this week. (ps – Chris you have great t-shirts and should set up a Spreadshirt shop!)

Pittsburgh's Chef Bill Fuller Brings the Bacon and The Terrible Towel to the Today Show

Description unavailableImage by arvindgrover via Flickr

Big Burrito’s (They are the folks behind the most tasty dining spots in Pittsburgh – MadMex, Kaya, Soba and others) Chef Bill Fuller (and food blogger) appeared on the NBC today show this morning (it will air here in Pittsburgh at 1pm) for a Super Bowl cook off. Bill is a regular guest on KDKA’s Pittsburgh Today live and does a great job. Today was no exception. He put together an amazing spread of super bowl food that shows off Pittsburgh. On super bowl days – fried onions are vegetables.  In addition to burgers and bacon – Bill shows off some other local favorites – Iron City Beer and Gobs.  Where can one purchase those delicious looking treats?

Yuenglearrings

Lindsay posted about cool Steelers gear … so I thought I would post a link to my Etsy site where I sell my handmade Steelers bottle cap earrings.  A friend of mine helped out and so now we have expanded to include Hines Ward, Sexy Troy, Action Troy, and Deshea Townsend.  I can do custom ones on request.  These were inspired by a pair of Virgin of Guadeloupe earrings I got in Veracruz a few years ago.

IheartPGH in the News – Trib PM – Pitt Girl's Back!

IheartPGH was quoted in the Trib PM about PittGirls return to the Pittsburgh scene. We were just one of many local bloggers who are happy to read more from JanePitt.

Pitt Girl’s Back – but just to go Bowl-ing, January 28, 2009

Reports of her demise have been greatly exaggerated.

PittGirl, the anonymous author of the popular Burgh Blog, fully returned to the fray of blogging this week, posting guest entries about the Pittsburgh Steelers on the Web site HaveAGoodSandwich.org.

But, she stressed, the one-week guest-blogging gig is no return from the dead. Since PittGirl ended The Burgh Blog two months ago over concerns about her anonymity, she said she has written for OMGPittsburgh.com and posted comments on the social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.

“I’m enjoying my little ‘guest-blogger’ stint and have other sites offering me to guest-blog for them,” said PittGirl, aka Jane Pitt, in an e-mail exchange with the Tribune-Review. “This way, I get an occasional outlet that doesn’t endanger my job, and it allows me to bring traffic to other worthy ‘Burgh sites that might not have the audience they deserve.”

Her return was greeted warmly.

“I think it’s great,” said Lindsay Patross, 29, the blogger behind IheartPGH.com. “I’m happy to have her back, to see what she has to say about the Steelers going to the Super Bowl.”

“I never thought she’d come back. I’m so surprised,” said Matt Hogue, 24, of Elliott, the author of Pittsburgh Hoagie. “I guess she just couldn’t stay away. She must have been missing the attention. But we welcome her back if she wants to come back.”

MacYapper blogger John McIntire joked that PittGirl’s continued appearances after a pseudo-retirement leaves her among interesting company.

“It’s like Sinatra or The Who — if you say you’re leaving, get off the stage,” said McIntire, 51, of the North Side. “I’m just jealous because she’s the blessed blogger. … She’s like the Myron Cope of bloggers. Everybody loves her.”

And what are PittGirl’s thoughts on Sunday’s big game?

“Prediction: Steelers will win, not due to Benny (Roethlisberger)’s stellar play or (Hines) Ward hauling in pass after pass, but more due to some amazing turnover/gadget play. Something unexpected,” she wrote. “Final score 20-13.”
