Vince Lombardi Trophy Recreated in Glass

Just because the super bowl is over doesn’t mean we can’t continue to share in the glory of all things black and gold.  And win or loose – Pittsburgh still had an awesome time getting ready for the super bowl.

On Friday night  I posted a few grainy photos from the Pittsburgh Glass Center – I have been trying out the WordPress App for Blackberry – the app seems to work but the photo quality leaves something to be desired.  But thankfully there are some much better photos to share.

First of all – if you haven’t been to the Pittsburgh Glass Center – you have got to go – they are always open for demos the first Friday of every month as part of the First Fridays on Penn Ave.  There are lots of great ways to check out this city and First Fridays are filled with free events.  I had a chance to ask one of the artists a bunch of questions – I didn’t know that this is one of just a few glass facilities in the country.  He was explaining to me how he and many of the other artists moved to Pittsburgh to apprentice at the Pittsburgh Glass Center.

So on Friday, February 4- which was the first Friday on the month -the Glass Center was open – this month’s demo was a glass football helmet and glass Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The demonstration also included a “tailgate” with hot dogs roasted on an open furnace.

Check out some of these great photos from the photo blog Plumb for the Road – Lesley has put together a collection of photos from Friday as well as other black and gold decorations around town.

And you can watch a video of the event from ustream. Keep an eye out for the Glass Center to stream future events too.
