Visit with 70 artisans and craftspeople during three days of arts, music & festivities as the I Made It! Market joins Pittsburgh’s SouthSide Works Exposed. Artists Market will be open: SouthSide Works Exposed is an amazing mix of a music festival, artist’s market, and sidewalk sales … but most of all a celebration of art in life. The setting for the event is in and around the Town Square of SouthSide Works. |

Image by wallyg via FlickrA few years ago I attended an informational meeting about the Sprout Fund’s public art program to learn more about murals in cities. What I took away from that brief meeting was a new appreciation of the idea of public art – I had never thought much about the idea of bringing art to people in their neighborhoods. Museums are great and Pittsburgh has some great museums but you have to go there to see the art. The Sprout Fund’s program was based on the public art program in Philadelphia which now has over 2200 murals around the city.
Pittsburgh has always had some interesting public art – some of which has been lost and found over the years and the Sprout Fund has supported the addition of new murals each year. Click here to read about some of the new public art along the Great Allegheny Passageway.

Having just returned to the area I’ve been hitting up flea markets and Goodwills as well as doing my fair share of garage sailing. I’ve inexplicably started reading the Pennysaver, which I have never really done before. I was intrigued by an estate sale ad that advertised the gamut of antiques, furniture, art, jewelry, and vintage clothes. I was also excited because it started at 8am this morning, and being currently unemployed, this meant I could be there for first crack at the bounty. Continue reading
