good old uncle sam

you may have seen an uncle sam’s, either in oakland, squirrel hill or at the waterworks. you may have thought that it’s a chain restaurant with it’s thorough decor and teenage staff. the only thing that may have tipped you off is the fact that they only take cash. uncle sam’s is a locally owned and operated business offerring yummy subs to several parts of the city. you always get a foot-long and they offer thin fries as a side [included when dining in]. for me, a foot-long portabella sub is two meals, and for a total of $7, that’s a deal.

check out other restaurants from the same owner: fuel & fuddle and joe mama’s – both in oakland

Pittsburgh has craigslist: pittsburgh classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

craigslist: pittsburgh classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

What is craigslist? Craigslist is AWESOME!!!

craigslist is by far the best online FREE classified bulletin board. In New York, Boston and San Francisco craigslist is one of the best ways to find a job or an apartment. Now that Craigslist has been in Pittsburgh for awhile more people are using it and there is a lot of great info on there – and some funny stories too.

Why is it called craigslist? (this is one of my favorite parts and it tells you a bit about what kind of site craigslist is)…

Craig wanted to call it “sf-events”, but more knowledgeable friends suggested calling it “craigslist” to reinforce its personal and down-to-earth nature. He still finds it awkward that such a visible site is named after him, but he’ll get over it.

Do you need some free slide projectors – http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/zip/125598277.html

and there is more FREE STUFF – check out the FREE section under “For Sale” for all sorts of free things that someone else is trying to get rid of.

Do you have a good Pittsburgh Craigslist story? We want to hear about it – email info@iheartpgh.org and tell us how craigslist has helped you.

hot diggity dogma!

today i patronized one of downtown’s few independent and reasonably priced lunch vendors. hot dogma serves up fresh and tasty meals with a mission. today i had a veggie el greco- this is a veggie dog covered with artichoke hearts and feta cheese, and boy is it good. i like it so much that i haven’t ventured beyond it on the menu but, for the reasons mentioned above, i will be going back. there are salads and soups and smoothies for me to try too. plus, they give you one of those punch cards, so you can get a free dog one day. if all of that isn’t enough, it’s also a nice place to hang out. they’re on oliver avenue in the basement of a church. go check it out!

what is PGH without sports

We have just corrected a small oversight on our part and we now have a category for “sports” – Sports are one part of what makes Pittsburgh a great city – and we aren’t saying that for a place to be a great place to live it has to have sports – One of the reasons to love sports in Pittsburgh is that sports become a major cultural force of connecting people. If you have not done so yet – you must stop by a bar during a Steeler game. A football game in Pittsburgh bring people together like no other force can. So for IheartPGH.com to truely document the best parts of Pittsburgh then we must document this city and sport. We hope you will share some of your stories about sports and Pittsburgh.
