Treading Art has been putting together an amazing list of weekend events around Pittsburgh.  Each week we feature one of the events from their Weekend Treadings list.

This weeks Treader’s Choice event is an awesome opening reception at the Mattress Factory.  Check out all of Treading Art suggestions for this weekend here.

Opening Receptions: Janine Antoni, DETROIT: Artists in Residence and Chiharu Shiota: Trace of Memory

mattress-factorySeveral Detroit Artists in Residence works are reaction to socio-economic status of Detroit Michigan. Janine Antoni brings to question the human condition by interacting directly with the viewers and Chiharu Shiota’s exhibition is christening the new 516 Sampsonia space. Show up early! They expect a full house.

7-9pm // $15 adults, $10 students

Manchester House + Garden Tour

According to the Manchester Historical Society:

After a year’s absence from the home tour scene, Manchester is back with a home and garden tour de force.  We invite you to Discover Manchester as we transform the traditional home tour experience into a fun and funky afternoon of exploration and surprises.

Instead of the usual booklet, tour-goers will be handed a treasure map to guide them along the tour.  The route will take visitors through a number of beautifully rehabbed homes including the Sipes Mansion, on tour for the first time since 2006.  There’s a refreshing sorbet garden tasting courtesy of Ann Gilligan Sorbet, as well as a stop at the new La Prima Roasting facility on Chateau.

The tour starts at the 1300 block of Page St – Manchester

From the Minds of Julie Mallis and D.S. Kinsel comes a night of both sights and sounds. With 21 artists on the bill for the evening, collaborations are a sure bet… plus food trucks.

Most Wanted Fine Art hosts a variety of events including both musical and visual. Check out L2D2 on Saturday for a taste of both experiences.

Schenley Park – Oakland

8am-5pm // FREE

This annual event raises funds to help provide residential care, treatment and support for developmentally disabled individuals in the Pittsburgh region. Their mission is “to maintain a world-class racing event that is free to the public to give all money to our two charities”. Many fun events will be going on throughout the weekend as well as various car shows.

Long awaited and much anticipated, test pattern is art in the form of experience. Data is converted into barcode patterns and translated into audiovisual performances of intense flickering imagery highly synchronized to a soundtrack. This will be the third concert in Ikeda’s datamatics series.
