There's No Place Like Pittsburgh!

Installment 1 – The decision is made.

Correct me if I’m wrong here but as I remember it, all Judy Garland had to do to get back to Kansas was the following:

1. look thoroughly annoyed from having wasted so much time and learned nothing new

2. click heels of the appropriate, sparkly footwear three times

3. repeat catchy mantra

And then she woke up and everything was back to normal. Is it me? Does this stuff only work for natives of Kansas or orphans who inexplicably live with an Aunt and Uncle? Is it only for those who have new friends with missing vital organs or questionable character traits?

What about a West End Girl who just wants to come back to her hometown of Pittsburgh?

I tried it, and was disappointed to discover that even my ruby slippers didn't work. But fear not, if I can make it home, so can you! I'm happy to say, I headed out of Texas and back to the 'Burgh in May. We'll all be waiting when you get back to this side of the rainbow.

You are so sweet! My purple velvet boots didn't work either – it is so strange. We only drifted as far as North Carolina so maybe it will not be as hard as getting back from Texas. I can't wait to wear my #43 jersey to work on Thursday:) .

From one West End Girl to another, who also drifted away (albeit, not as far…only to DC), I am happier than a yinzer in a vat of IRN to be home. It's not perfect, but it's home. And I'd be willing to drop a house or two on anyone trying to make it difficult for you to follow the yellow brick road back to the Golden Triangle.

I just moved back from NYC, and it was not easy!!! I knew how happy I would be once I was back..so I never gave up. My advice to you is to keep working at it and eventually everything will fall into place! Good luck!!!

I agree that it's definitely possible to make it home. I'm from Pittsburgh but go to school in Athens, Ohio. I realize the situations we have are different, but I find myself craving the atmosphere of Pittsburgh, and the people. The city is so unique and has a ton to offer, especially with food, culture, and community.
