For the Love of Local Pizza: Plan to Have Spak Brothers Pizza This Weekend

July 30, 2015 Lindsay

Spak Brothers is an awesome pizza shop in Penn Avenue in Garfield, awesome because they make delicious food and they are awesome neighbors who have supported lots of community initiatives.  I know they kept many of the toy drive volunteers fed last Christmas. Due to a break-in and refrigerator break down, they have had a rough week.  Spak isn’t asking for money, but you can support them by stopping by for some food. Spak will reopen at 5pm on Thursday and be open until Tuesday when the new fridge arrives. These small businesses are the heart and soul of this… Read the rest

Three weeks ago, IheartPGH was featured in the Tribune Review’s article about the #MySummerin5words – Tweets connect Pittsburghers with the world, each other in 5 words (Tribune Review, May 27, 2015).  It took me a few tries but here is how I summarized my summer in 5 words: Mon, Ohio, Allegheny, & Jail Trail #MySummerin5words #pghsummerin5words — I heart PGH (@iheartpgh) May 27, 2015 I also posted a tweet that sums up a Pittsburgh summer with 5 Twitter accounts: Here is how I’d sum up the next 3 months @Firstwavesorg @kayakpittsburgh @gtbikerentals @LeonasLLC @IndependentPGH #MySummerin5words — I heart PGH (@iheartpgh)… Read the rest

Tweet the Vote – Twitter Guide to the Primary Election

May 18, 2015 Lindsay

Pittsburgh Primary Election TwitterTomorrow, Tuesday, May 19, 2015 is primary election day in Pittsburgh. Most of the registered voters in Pittsburgh are democrats (I have been trying to find the exact percentage of Pittsburgh voters who are registered as democrats, but I have yet to find that statistic).  As a result, most of the elections in the City of Pittsburgh are determined in the Primary election.  If you want to be able to vote for these candidates in the the primary election, you will need to be registered as a democrat.  Voters who are registered as Republican, Independent or any other party can… Read the rest

Please vote for Srvd as Pittsburgh’s Hottest Startup by 6pm today!

April 30, 2015 Catherine

You can skip the mumbo jumbo if you want and just vote for Srvd, an app that makes it easier to order and pay for drinks at the bar, by 6pm today. One of the things we love about Pittsburgh (and one of the things that actually brought some of the I heart PGH team together) is the growing, vibrant startup community. Lindsay and I actually met and worked out at Thrill Mill, one the the local incubators, and you can usually find one or both of us at a startup or entrepreneur-related networking event each week. Tonight, Pittsburgh is… Read the rest

Celebrate space with Yuri’s Night Pittsburgh tomorrow!

April 11, 2015 Catherine

Yuri's Night PittsburghSpace is pretty awesome. Blockbuster hits like Gravity and Interstellar, privatized space exploration such as Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Virgin Galactic, and incentives like Google’s Lunar XPRIZE, which awards $30 million to the first private company to send a robot to the moon, have renewed our interest beyond our atmosphere. And Pittsburgh has great representation with local NewSpace company Astrobotic leading the race to the moon, having won initial milestones of the Lunar XPRIZE and currently accepting payloads to be sent to space on their first launch. And lucky you– you can get in on some space-related fun tomorrow evening… Read the rest
