We are just getting started with the possibilites of our new online store. But we now have a shop with SpreadShirt.com.
Click here to visit the IheartPGH SpreadShop
SpreadShirt happens to be based right here in Pittsburgh and offers way better merchandise than the Cafe Press Shop we had up before.
We have just added some new items – including a Black t-shirt with a Gold Glitter heart.

Additonally they have a nice little summer sale going on until August 28th – Save 15% off your order of $15.00 or more – enter the code “SummerSale06” when you check out.

Check out the “pittsburghers are tasty” t-shirt too!

Want to sell t-shirts on your site? Looking for an easy way to design and sell t-shirts? Definitly check out SpreadShirt.com – I can’t say enough about how SpreadShirt is so much better than other online merchandise shops.
– Better looking online shop (you can even customise the header and footer to make it look like your site
– Better Merchandise – colored t-shirts, direct vector prints (way better than just the digital transfers that Cafe Press offers)
– Better customer service

I was so impressed with the people at SpreadShirt that I am now helping them get their new blog up and running.

Couchsurfing … Pittsburgh style.

I’m back! I’m back! I’ve been away for the past couple months because of travel and sheer laziness, but I’m ready for more backroom political deals and motorcycle-crashin’ Steelers. Thanks for keeping it real, friends.

While I was traveling, I got in a bit of a pinch with European labor strikes, airport delays, and Barcelona pickpocketers. It was *not* a fun experience. But during my adventure, I discovered an interesting site that hooks up travellers with natives … via couches. Well, I’ll let the site explain:

Couchsurfing helps you make connections worldwide. You can use the network to meet people and then go and surf other members’ couches! When you surf a couch, you are a guest at someone’s house. They will provide you with some sort of accommodation, a penthouse apartment or maybe a back yard to pitch your tent in. Stays can be as short as a cup of coffee, a night or two, or even a few months or more. When you offer your couch, you have complete control of who visits. The possibilities are endless and completely up to you.

Just for the heck of it, I searched for all available surfers within 20 miles of Pittsburgh, PA … and I found 94 people! There is even a Pittsburgh community. If you have a spare room, a couch, a backyard, time for coffee or cocktails … and want to share the ‘burghlove, then consider signing up. (The site has some extensive information about the safety of couch surfing, including some info for solo women hosts or travellers. No one has to host a traveller or respond to a request if s/he doesn’t want to, and there is a validation system in place to authenticate the identity of participants. Here’s the FAQ for more info.)

Now … for all you out-of-towners reading this … you have no excuse not to visit Pittsburgh. With free accommodation, $1 bottles at the BBT, and 20 cent wings at Fat Head’s … you can have yourself a trip for under $20 bucks. Cheers!

Cool Larryville Gallery

I never thought that I would see so many galleries spring up in Lawrenceville. Over the last several years, many have come and gone. But a recent addition to the galleries in Lawrenceville has probably become my favorite.

Digging Pitt Gallery, located on Butler Street, has a unique and unpretentious air. The work is consistently good, ranging from the truly bizarre to the deeply beautiful. As the past year has come and gone, I have found some of my favorite artists on display.

When you walk into the gallery you get such a sense of discovery, with a feeling that there are no wrong choices. Sometimes, the walls will be covered with unframed drawings, showing rough edges, masterpieces pinned to the wall. At other times, sophisticated drawings and complex prints share the wall space.

The gallery itself is dominated by large flat files, the drawers of which contain folios of carefully stored artwork. Perusing the collection of artwork gives one a sense of discovery, delving into unknown depths in search of some hidden gem.

The gallery was started by John Morris, who moved here from New York in 2004 with the express purpose of opening a gallery. Digging Pitt is modeled after the Pierogi Gallery, located in Brooklyn. Digging Pitt, much like the Pierogi gallery, brings a wide range of works from a vast array of artists, into one small area.

Anyway, check out Digging Pitt. The website and the blog!
