Damiera & Endless Mike & The Beagle Club

There’s this really awesome band named Damiera coming to town- I saw them at the Butler VFW a couple of months ago. They’re playing at the Roboto Project on Saturday, December 16th. They’re also playing with Endless Mike & The Beagle Club. Endless Mike is an awesome band that has unified the Pittsburgh and Johnstown music scenes and as one person said, “My grandma even likes them!” . I suggest going- I’ll be there and we can say hi or pretend we don’t know eachother- whichever one floats your boat! It’s only 6 dollars (seriously, that’s like, one drink at most bars) and it starts at 7 pm. To see all shows booked by independent promoters check this out: http://www.myspace.com/pittshows

Cocktails for a Cause

I really like when places that I would normally visit, do something for a good cause.  It is not unusually for me to visit the Brillo Box on a Tuesday evening.  If you have not yet been to the Brillo Box, or are looking to get involved with something, want to meet some new great people or just want to support a good cause then this is a good event for you.  The people at Planned Parenthood of Western PA could not be nicer, they are all pasionate about Planned Parenthood, Pittsburgh and they are all involved with other interesting organizations around Pittsburgh.

The best part is that the Brillo Box will be donating 60% of the proceeds from the evening to Planned Parenthood.  They will also be selling some cool holiday gifts too.

Cocktails for a Cause to benefit Planned Parenthood of Western PA.

When: Tuesday, Dec. 5 2006, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Where: Brillobox, 4104 Penn Ave.
Join us for drinks and a bite to eat. Brillobox will be donating 60 percent of proceeds to Planned Parenthood. Pick up a holiday gift for yourself or a friend. We’ll be selling Choice t-shirts, jewelry, notcards, magnets, buttons, etc.
RSVP to Michelle DeBlasi at deblam1025@aol. com or just come on down.

Tasty food to go

The Union Project, that super amazing community center in the East End, that I often visit, has been upgrading their Cafe. I don’t know how they improve on perfection, but they did. Well actually I do know how they did it. By putting Olga Watkins in charge. Olga has been giving the menu at the Union Project Cafe a complete makeover. And it gets better – now they offer off site catering. Cool.

Stop by the Union Project and say hello to Olga, and let them take the headache out of ordering food for your next event.

Pittsburgh – The Movie

Check out Pittsburgh, one of the Movies that is part of this years Three Rivers Film Festival (Nov. 2-16).

Filmed here in 2004, Pittsburgh follows Jeff Goldblum’s return to his hometown to star in Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera’s production of The Music Man with his then-fiancée, Catherine Wreford. This deliciously deadpan comedy walks an elegant line between improvisation, documentary, and re-enactment. Goldblum attacks the project with his trademark quirky enthusiasm and he ultimately ropes his friends Ed Begley Jr. and Illeana Douglas into the musical too. But once the cast assembles in Pittsburgh, Goldblum is stricken with self-doubt over whether he can convincingly play the iconic role of Harold Hill. The co-directors mix genuine documentary – including “real appearances by Doug Shields, Jennifer Antkowiak, John Shumway, and CLO’s cast and crew – with outright self-parody to make Pittsburgh an uproariously funny film. (Kyle LaBrache and Chris Bradley; USA; 2006; 84 min)
