4 More Days – Seattle Steelers Fans Getting Ready for Sunday

Yesterday, I headed over to the Hollywood Theater in Dormont to check out Davy & Pete Rothbart’s My Heart Is An Idiot Found Tour.

Davy Rothbart started Found 10 years ago to share the best of found notes, items, even grocery receipts. My Heart Is An Idiot is the name of Davy Rothbart’s new book which hit bookshelves yeterday. Pittsburgh was the first stop on their 79 city tour (if you are reading this and live in one of the other 78 cities on the tour – I highly recommend you spend an evening with the Rothbarts). Davy shared some of his favorite found notes and his brother Pete performed some songs inspired by found notes. (And a huge thanks to Davy and the Found team for giving us some tickets to giveaway).

So what does this have to do with the Steelers… this morning I was scanning my Facebook feed and I was inspired to share this Facebook status message – I think it eloquently and accurately sums up how many Pittsburghers are feeling.

The following was posted by my friend Justin – we went to grade school together here in Pittsburgh. He now lives in Seattle and through the magic of Facebook we keep in touch about all things Pittsburgh.

4 more days until the best football team on the planet kicks off it’s season, I start wearing black and yellow everyday, Wiz Khalifa goes on repeat…

But most importantly, my The Pittsburgh Steelers family reunites and begins on the Stairway to 7. Lets do this!

Should you find your self in the Seattle area in need of a place to watch the Steeler game – Dino’s is the place. I have confirmed that some actually native Pittsburghers will be there for the first game of the season and likely every other game this season as well.

Hello Chicago! The Steeler Game from The Dark Horse

Last week we traveled to the windy city to meet up with the folks who are making a documentary about Steelers Fans at The Dark Horse Tap and Grille in Chicago.

I have to admit that I was a little nervous when I got of the plane and was walking through Midway airport wearing my Steelers t-shirt – it was not the usual sea of black and gold that you find at the Pittsburgh airport. I took the train from the airport to the Dark Horse and I was relieved to sit down across from a Steelers fan. These girls were headed to the game. She is not from Pittsburgh but she is a die hard fan and commented that she was nervous because she had changed her Steeler gear outfit from the week before.

I arrived at the Dark Horse just in time to take the bus to the game – those who had tickets to go to the game had met at the Dark Horse earlier in the day for some pre-game festivities and then chartered their own party bus to head to Soldier Field.

Then we made our way over to the Steel City Mafia/Iron City Beer Tailgate that was wrapping up – Bears and Steelers fans were peacefully coexisting in the parking lots.

Then it was back to the Dark Horse to watch the game. Interviewing some Steelers fans – everyone at the Dark Horse was dressed in black and gold, some are native Pittsburghers, others had attended school in Pittsburgh – one guy we talked to was a dancer who had attended Point Park – most had moved to Chicago for work. This SUNDAY – Be Part of the Steeler Fan Movie!

Thanks to you, the readers of IheartPGH and your entusiasm for the nation of Steeler’s fans I have had the opportunity to meet and watch the Steeler Game with the folks who are traveling the country to make a documentary about Steelers Fans.

They have already been to Steelers bars in Tennesse, Brooklyn and Chicago. This weekend they are bring their film crew to Western PA.

Ken and Stacey from Steeler Country Productions NYC will be bringing their crew to watch the game at Fred’s Divot in Ambridge. They are inviting any Steelers Fans who are interested to join them for a tailgate this Sunday.

Steeler Bar Tour Update – Next Stop Chicago

I just wanted to post a brief update about the Steeler Bar Tour before the game tomorrow. First of all thank you to everyone who has helped to get this project going – when I first posted about this in August I had no idea we would get this much support- I promise I will get lots more links and thank yous posted in the next few days.

A quick recap of what happened thus far:

- We watched the first game of the season here in Pittsburgh at Sidelines in Millvale – more photos coming soon. Thanks to everyone who submitted their favorite places to watch the game in Pittsburgh.

- Thanks to an IheartPGH reader we learned about Ken Hypes who is making a film about these Steelers Bars. Last week we used our JetBlue All-u-can-jet pass to meet up with Ken in New York – of course we met him at a Steelers Bar. Check out the trailer here.
