Spelling Bee Mondays & Boxed Wine Specials

Last week I mentioned the local Scrabble clubs. I am happy to help Pittsburgh find fun ways to work on increasing our vocabulary. So I was very happy to get an email from the folks at the Lava Lounge about Spelling Bee Mondays.

Not only will there be a spelling bee, but you get these exciting specials…

  • $1.00 Meatball Sandwiches – Veggie/Meat (5PM-12AM)
  • 1.50 Glasses of Boxed Wine
  • $1.25 16oz. Pabst Drafts

WhereTheMusicMatters.com

WYEP has a new website – WYEP.org. It is one good looking new website. I hope that someday IheartPGH looks half as good as this!
Another great thing is that they have a little tag line at the bottom – The first green station in the nation. Awesome. Make sure you check out the history page – WYEP is a great independent radio station with a great story. To go from a basement in Oakland to the first green station in the nation is great. Congrats to WYEP on a great new website.

Three Rivers Runs Through It

Second City does Iron City! Chicago’s famed comedy troupe Second City has been working on a Pittsburgh show in honor of Pittsburgh’s 250 Birthday.
They need your help – Pittsburgh Public Theater and the Post GAzette are holding a contest for jokes and sketches about Pittsburgh that are under a minute. Winning entries will be performed as part of the show.
More info: post-gazette.com/jokecontest/

Tickets are going fast, Second City will only be at the Public Theater for one week – January 8-13.
Call the Public Theater and ask for Becky to get your tickets now.

Wednesday Night is Trivia Night

December is usually the rest season for the Pittsburgh Sports League. Never Fear! The good folks at the PSL have cooked up Wednesday Night Trivia to get you through the holiday season. Word on the street is that this is tricky trivia. Grab some friends and head on down to Buffalo Blues for Trivia Night.

Help A Pittsburgh Blogger Support MDA

Doug Derda, more commonly known around the Pittsburgh blogosphere as Father Spoon from Should I Drink That is working to beat his fundraising goal from last year for the MDA. Should I Drink That is an excellent podcast that is popular here in Pittsburgh and with beer drinking fans beyond Pittsburgh. The Should I Drink That guys have done a great job with their podcast and they do a great job supporting local businesses.
I have had the opportunity to get to know Father Spoon and Sick Puppy from PodCamp and from some of the beer festivals around Pittsburgh. I think they are awesome podcasters and Pittsburghers and I happy to help Doug support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Doug is trying to raise $2000 by the end of November (yes, today). I hope you will visit his fundraising page and make a contribution.

Even if you can make a $5 or $10 contribution, please contribute and help spread the word.
