  • We HEART Steeler Baby

    During these weeks of Super Bowl fever we have been trying to write about some of Pittsburgh’s super Steelers fans. Earlier this week the Post-Gazette reported on some of the Steelers websites and mentioned Steeler Baby.
    Last night we ran into Steeler Baby at the Brillo Box and he put on one of our new I heart PGH “buttons” (if you are one of the many people to take a picture of Steeler Baby with the I heart PGH pin please email us a copy info@iheartpgh.com to post to the site).

    So in short the Steeler Baby website www.steelerbaby.com is the intersection of all that is great about Pittsburgh – a creative and hilarious display of all sorts of Steelers festivities.   • Viewer Discretion

    So I guess we should take a break from our Super Bowl fever to write something that is not football related…
    Thankfully our friends at the Shadow Lounge just keep coming up with good idea – check out Viewer Discretion – an open mic but for video instead of performance. Yet another good reason to spend your evening at the Shadow Lounge – here are the details.

    So we have the Curl Up Tuesdays for all the Spoken Word junkies. And Wednesdays’ Musicians’ Open Mic is probably one of the most talented open stages in the Mid-Atlantic…. So what about the Film folks?
    The Shadow Lounge is proud to introduce its newest “Open Mic”, Viewer Discretion, happens on the 1st Thursday of the Month. The idea behind it: Take the Poetry Open Mic model and do it for film. Simply put bring your piece down on DVD format, sign up, and show.

    The time limit is 10 minutes. It can be a short or 10 minutes of bigger picture… maybe it’s a work in progress. Each month we’ll showcase a couple of features to make sure the night it filled with moving pictures.

  • Civic Cards

    A friend (who isn’t from Pittsburgh) just sent me a link for the company below and wondered if it was for real.

    I investigated the situation and had to respond in the affirmative. Yes, it’s the nerdiest thing ever. Yes, political junkies will flip. Yes, it’s more than you ever wanted to know about your Federal, State, County, Municipality, School Board representatives. Yes, it’s real.

    Yes, this is for real. You can seriously buy trading cards of local political leaders. They have all levels of government from federal to the school board. You can even plug in your city, ward, and district and pull up civic cards especially for your district.

    I wonder if we can make a game out of this! Like Magic or Uno!

    Except, instead of “Uno,” we can call it “Costa!” (Okay, maybe not. There’s always more than one of those.)
