Play It Forward – Musical Instrument ReUse at Construction Junction on March 7th

Musical InstrumentsImage by natekoechley via Flickr

Not only is this a great idea because it gives you a chance to recycle something you might not use any more, and to support kids but it is pretty cool that Play it Forward was inspired by a 13 year old Coleman Daugherty as part of his community service project for preparing for his Bar Mitzvah

“Wouldn’t it be cool to get people to donate the musical instruments that they’re not using to kids who would like to learn how to play music?” After exploring this idea with several members of the local musical community, Coleman discovered that there is indeed a need for donated instruments, but that no such program was currently operating to fulfill that need in the Pittsburgh region

Here is how it works

More information about Play It Forward is available at the Construction Junction Website.

cityLive – People that do more than talk

For over a year now, cityLIVE has been putting together interesting panel discussions and forums on all sorts of interesting topics. Check out my post about the first cityLIVE event here. Both CEOs for Cities and Return to Pittbsuburgh have posted a write up on the last cityLIVE event. The next cityLIVE event, March 12, 2009 at the New Hazlett Theater, should be equally interesting – the theme is Moved to Action – and I know first hand how inspring these panelists can be.

Pittsburgh Signs Project Book

Pittsburgh Signs Project Now Available on Amazon.com

If you are a regular reader you will know that we really like signs (and sometimes climb over guard rails to photograph them) and that we have been following the Pittsburgh Signs Project from its beginnings as a blog to a published book.

Pittsburgh Signs Project Book

The book –  Pittsburgh Signs Project: 250 Signs of Western Pennsylvania – is now available on Amazon.com.  I have a copy and I gave some copies of the book to friends for Christmas.  It is even easier to order a copy for your friends who don’t live in Pittsburgh.

If you would prefer to shop local…

Pittsburgh Signs Project: 250 Signs of Western Pennsylvania is now available for sale at Carnegie Mellon’s University Store in the shop or online, the Mattress Factory Museum (North Side) and Heinz History Center (Strip District) shops.

The book is also for sale at the Carnegie Museum of Art Store (Oakland), Andy Warhol Museum (North Side) and Silver Eye Center for Photography (South Side).

From I like the Warhol museum for alot of reasons – I am not really sure if Andy Warhol would like the Warhol museum but that is anothr conversation.  If it weren’t for the warhol museum this blog wouldn’t exist.  After a trip to the Warhol on a rainy sunday afternoon – I decided to teach myself to screen print.  The first t-shirt I printed was an IheartPGH t-shirt.  A few year later, I had forgotten about t-shirts and was working on campaigns when we started the IheartPGH blog and brought back the t-shirt idea.  The t-shirts and the blog have been a good thing.  It was an IheartPGH reader that left a comment about Spreadshirt and I was happy to find a great source for IheartPGH T-shirts and now I work for Spreadshirt and when I am not writing about Pittsburgh, I am writing about t-shirts here.  I had no idea when I dragged friend of IheartPGH to the Warhol musuem back in 2003 that it would be so influential.
