Hostel Party – Help Pittsburgh Get A Hostel

First things first, if you aren’t familiar with hostling here is what a hostle is all about from Wikipedia…

Hostels provide budget oriented, sociable accommodation where guests can rent a bed, sometimes a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can be mixed or single-sex, although private rooms may also be available. Hostels are generally cheaper for both the operator and the occupants; many hostels have long-term residents whom they employ as desk clerks or housekeeping staff in exchange for free accommodation

Pittsburgh used to have a hostel located in the Allentown neighborhood but it closed a few years ago.  Earlier this year a group of Pittsburghers got together to work on planning a new hostel for Pittsburgh.  Check out PittsburghHostel.org for more info.

This Saturday they are hosting their second fundraiser called Sleeping with Strangers.

Sleeping With Strangers
Saturday, August 29, 2009 – 5-11pm
Viaduct Studios, 622 Second Ave
Suggested donation $5-$50

What a shame that this is the same night as Hot House.

an outside opinion from someone who only knows about hostels from what he learned in German class:Just a cursory look at this history of hostels in Pittsburgh shows that the Pittsburgh Council had some serious financial issues in regards to the hostel's they used to run in Pittsburgh. Does the new group have a plan in place already on how to not repeat that situation?
