Play It Forward – Musical Instrument ReUse at Construction Junction on March 7th

Not only is this a great idea because it gives you a chance to recycle something you might not use any more, and to support kids but it is pretty cool that Play it Forward was inspired by a 13 year old Coleman Daugherty as part of his community service project for preparing for his Bar Mitzvah…

“Wouldn’t it be cool to get people to donate the musical instruments that they’re not using to kids who would like to learn how to play music?” After exploring this idea with several members of the local musical community, Coleman discovered that there is indeed a need for donated instruments, but that no such program was currently operating to fulfill that need in the Pittsburgh region

Here is how it works

  • March 7, 2009 noon – 4pm – Drop off any instruments that you no longer use (no full size pianos please)
  • Play it Forward will collect the instruments and distribute them to these 2 great projects which provide music programs of excellence for individuals of varied social and economic backgrounds.
    • Afro-American Music Institute in Homewood
    • Hope Academy of Music and the Arts in East Liberty

More information about Play It Forward is available at the Construction Junction Website.
