Image via WikipediaThanks to Laura without Labels for blogging about this project today. Pittsburgh is one of those cities on Google Street View - basically google drove around the city taking panoramic photos of allmost every street and used fancy computer technology to stitch those photos together - you can drive down a street and check out a 360 view from the comfort of your own computer.
Well thanks to Roin Hewlett & Benn Kingsley’s Street With a View project there is a lot more to see on the Google Street View of Sampsonia Way - earlier this year they staged a scene for the street view photos.
Now when you take a tour of Sampsonia Way on Google Street view you will see all sorts of things from a giant chicken, to a parade with the Langly high school marching band.

Here are some links/articles/blog posts that are worth a look:
Mattress Factory - A Museum of Contemporary Art: ARTIST SPOTLIGHT :: Damien Hirst - I wish I had seen his work when it was at the Mattress Factory - the fly one looks cool and kind of strange at the same time. My favorite art from the Mattress Factor was the dinner party one that was set up there a few years ago. If anyone has a link to that please share.
Strange Pennyslvania Pittsburgh Premiere! | Dave and Dave’s Excellent Blog - Dave and Dave have a new special about strange things in the great state of PA. I had a chance to chat with the Daves about this new special - I think there are going to be some great segments. Check out the premier on Sept. 25 at 8pm
find the time to rhyme - David Pohl is an illustrator, an educator, a DJ, a performance artist, an installation artist, a blogger, a gardener and oh, yeah, a drummer! This is his blog.
Justin Driscoll - The Intersection of Life and Faith - Justin is a youth minister who lives in Western PA who has a background in technology. This is his blog and he has also authored a book "7things I wish I knew before I graduated"
One of the best events my sister and I ever stumbled upon was the Mattress Factory’s Community Garden Party. Every year the mattress factory holds a fancy smancy fundraiser - which I hear is a great event. Plus the theme for this year’s fundraiser is “Let them Eat Cake” - I really like cake. I also really like that right after the fancy fundraiser they open the place up for a free day of community activities.
For starters, the Mattress Factory has an amazing garden, so that is worth going to see. The exhibts are also worth your visit.
There were two pieces there the last time I attended that remain some of my favorites - one was the leftovers from a dinner party and the other one I think was called “stairway to heaven” and it was an organ that was played by stepping on an old stairmaster.
To top it all off they will have music and art, including silk screening - it was a visit to the Warhol museum that got me started screen printing - the first shirt I made was an IheartPGH t-shirt, which eventually led to this little website. And the community garden party is all free.
Enjoy outdoor entertainment, activities and art you can get into! Experience a variety of exciting programs! Performances include Steel-pan drummers, Puppet Express with artist Tom Sarver, African dancers and more! Come try hands-on activities such as flower potting, silk screening, scavenger hunting and other fun art activities! FREE and open to the public.
