Redhawk Coffee Now Open in Oakland

For a neighborhood that is home to a population of guaranteed coffee drinkers, Oakland has 3 universities and a handful of hospitals, there has been a lack of coffee shops especially since the Pete’s Coffee closed a few years ago. Redhawk Coffee which launched a coffee truck last year now has a storefront at 120 Meyran in Oakland. 24 Gifts of Pittsburgh: Fair Trade Coffee from Building New Hope

Building New Hope has been one of those things that has sort of been on my Pittsburgh radar, but not something I have blogged about before.  Building New Hope is a Pittsburgh non-profit organization that imports coffee beans from El Porvenir, a worker-owned coffee cooperative in Nicaragua.  The coffee is roasted locally by Coffee 19 in Washington County. Proceeds from the sale of coffee are used to fund two schools and other youth programs in Nicaragua. Coffee Porter Release Party

Two of our favorite local businesses have teamed up and we couldn’t be more excited!  Come celebrate the union of East End Brewing and Squirrel Hill’s Commonplace Coffeehouse and the release of their offspring, the Coffee Porter – a Porter with Commonplace coffee.  Delicious!  Awesome!  Fun!  Yes! The Release Party is this Thursday (tomorrow), December 15th from 6 – 10pm at Commonplace Coffeehouse in Squirrel Hill.  Tickets are $22 and get you a taster of the Porter, as well as a  gift bottle to take home and a half-pound bag of Commonplace’s Sumatra coffee.
