Saturday, January 21 is a Corporate Hockey (Day and) Night in Pittsburgh.  Corporate hockey teams will be competing in a tournament to raise money for the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and United Way. Donations can also be accepted at: https://www.formstack.com/forms/?1151244-Rbed2tOEJf

Have you ever dreamed of celebrating Christmas Eve with the Steelers? If so, this year you might be able to make that dream a reality. Longstanding high-end Downtown retailer Larrimor‘s is giving away two tickets to the December 24th game against the St. Louis Rams!

To enter, all you have to do is visit Larrimor’s on Facebook, become a fan, and leave a comment on their wall answering the following question: In a dream world, what one person would you bring with you to the game and why? Larrimor’s will provide the tickets, but can’t guarantee your dream guest. Fans are already dreaming up the perfect game next to their best friends, military husbands and in one case Johnny Depp. The winner will be selected at random, but why not be creative with your answer? There’s no harm in dreaming!

Entries will be accepted until Wednesday, December 14th at noon. The winner will be announced on Thursday, December 15th on Larrimor’s Facebook page. Good luck!

The answer is “yes.” In his Opening Day: Yinz Luv ‘Da Buccos exhibit on display at Wildcard through the month of April, Shearer pays homage to the Pittsburgh Pirates of his youth (back when it was somewhat customary to end a season with more wins than losses) in a series of portraits of beloved players. Using the same art tools he wielded as a youngster, each image is created with colored pencils, crayons, magic markers, and watercolors. To coincide with the Pirates’ first game of the season, Opening Day: Yinz Luv ‘Da Buccos will have its opening night celebration on Friday, April 1st from 8:00pm-10:00pm. The event is free and includes complimentary drinks and refreshments, along with a Pirates trivia contest and other surprises, including Jim Shearer.

The Regenerative Medicine Super Bowl Fan Challenge – Pitt vs. U of Wisconsin – well here is a unique and about as niche as it gets for a Super Bowl challenge the Pitt/UMPC McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine has challenged the University of Wisconsin Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Research Center to a Facebook fan battle.  Which every research center gets the most new fans by kickoff gets to post a picture of the other Institute’s director decked out in opposing teams colors! So just be a fan of the McGowan Institute here to make sure that Wisconsin doesn’t win this one.

The Burrito Bowl – Pittsburgh vs. Green Bay Burrito Eating Contest.  On Saturday, February 5, 2011 4pm @ the South Side Qdoba on Carson Street.  You must preregister by stopping by the South Side Qdoba and paying a $5 registration fee.   The contest is only open to the first 50 registrants.

From the East End Brewing email – I could summarize for you but then you would miss the beer puns – so I will just paste in their works…

It seems that during a recent visit to Wisconsin, The Whitehouse placed a beer order from fellow Craft Brewer, Hinterland Brewing Company in Wisconsin, so that they could have some Green Bay beer on hand for the Superbowl. Simple enough, but maybe you can already see that this act by itself, is not exactly a “beer-partisan” move. Since Friday of last week, we’re working to help correct that.

Yes, the Twerrible Towel is the name of the twitter powered terrible towel.

We are still collecting all of the details about this – but it looks like the folks at McKinney - an advertising firm in Durham, NC – have built a twitter powered terrible towel.  Everytime some one posts a tweet with the hashtag #steelersnation – the motorized hand twirls the terrible towel.   They have hacked an old fan motor and hooked it up to a computer to bring the steelernation – what I imagine is the first ever – Twitter powered terrible towel.

Even better you can watch the Twerrible Towel live on Ustream – http://www.ustream.tv/twerribletowel – as of this blog post there have been 1132 twirls of the twerrible towel.

We did see this amazing Dodge Neon (possibly the best use of a Dodge Neon ever).

Here are the clues for the rest of the afternoon:

- Clue #5 – at 1:30 pm – the Mystery Man will be somewhere near the largest building in Pittsburgh

- Clue #6 – at 3 pm – the Mystery Man will be exploring around Market Square

- Clue #7 – at 5 pm – the Mystery Man will be exploring Point State Park

At 7pm the mystery man will pack it in for the night.
