The Lawrenceville Spaghetti dinner is back for 2012 to raise funds to support the Bernard Dog Run, an off leash do g park to be constructed in Lawrenceville which is named after one of the founders of the Boys of Lawrenceville.

You can learn about the Bernard Dog Run and read the proposal here.  (I want to take a quick moment to point out that they have done an AMAZING job with this website – simple and easy to find the most important information you are looking for – if you are looking to set up a website for a community event – use this one as an example).

On Friday, March 2, 2012 – you can support the Bernard Dog Run by eatting some spaghetti – vegetarian sauce (meatballs optional), as well as fresh bread, salad, dessert, beer, and wine!

The 2012 spaghetti dinner will be held at the Teamster Temple, 4701 Butler Street, from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and the evening will include entertainment, raffles and Italian music. Proceeds from the event will also benefit local nonprofit animal resource center, Animal Friends.

Advanced tickets are available at Eclipse Lounge, Espresso a Mano, Gallery on 43rd Street, Lawrenceville United and online for $11 per person. Tickets bought at the door will be $13 per person, and children under the age of 10 eat free.

Super S****s: Art from the Staff of the Andy Warhol Museum opens tomorrow (Friday, January 13 from 6-9pm) at WildCard.  Andy Warhol’s Superstars were an elite clique of personalities that gained notoriety and fame through their association with the infamous artist. They were heavily featured in Warhol’s early works and their lives were immersed in the New York City art scene.

The staff of the Andy Warhol Museum are similarly immersed in the Pittsburgh art community. The artists featured in this show all have two things in common: they have worked as caretakers of Warhol’s art by day and as fine artists by night. Super****s opens on Friday January 13th and runs until February 19.

Then on Saturday from 11am – 7pm visit Wild Stuff, a collaborative, pop up vintage sale on Butler Street. Three of the great names in Lawrenceville (Wildcard, Botero Development, and Zombo Gallery) are teaming up for one great event: a Pop-Up Vintage sale featuring some of the bets finds in Pittsburgh. With items for sale ranging from visual art to bathtubs, ladies winter coats to tiki glasses, typewriters to CDs, there’s something for everyone at Wild Stuff!

Starting on Saturday, January 14 and running through Saturday March 31, the ground floor at 4300 Butler St will be full of retro fashion finds, scavenged building materials, furniture, and accessories.

Progression: Progression is a feature-length narrative film project, set in Lawrenceville, shot in Lawrenceville and about a real-life Lawrenceville institution: the 27-year-old progressive dinner, which began with about 15 friends and has become a community event with more than 150 participants. Well, if you found that as disturbing as I did, you might be looking for a few good local sources to buy your honey from now on.  Here are a few ideas, and there are loads of other farms and resources out there.

Buy local honey from Steffes Wood Apiary (Aliquippa, PA) right now at Gallery on 43rd Street in Lawrenceville.  Why not stop down from December 1 through 4th when you can also enjoy the Joy of Cookies Cookie Tour?  That’s right, the Art of Bees is at Gallery on 43rd Street.  There is a selection of Spring, Summer and Fall Honey and if you pair that with a honey pot by Plum potter Karen McKee, you have the perfectly sustainable local gift! Open 7 days a week through December.

Support Wild Purveyors‘ new shop in Lawrenceville!  Although Wild Purveyors have reached their Kickstarter goal (congrats!) to open the Pennsylvania Specialty Foods Market at 5308 Butler Street, you can still support the campaign and be rewarded in fantastic store vouchers.  Or just plan to buy your honey (and more) there when they open their doors.

And there is always the great resource Burgh Bees, where if buying your honey isn’t local enough for you you can sign up for one of their apiary classes and produce your own.

Ok, full disclosure here.  The artist in this show, Ryder Henry, is my husband.  But hey, I’m not the only one who thinks his work is cool, the folks at WildCard in Lawrenceville decided to give him a show!  And you should come out Friday, February 11th  for the opening from 6-9pm at WildCard (4209 Butler Street).  There will be free food, drinks and music!

“4 Lydia is, was, and will be a great space nation” will feature building and spaceship models made out of reclaimed materials, paintings of the models, and will be the first show incorporating sculpture at WildCard.  For more info click here.

Between noon to five today SUNDAY head to the Cathedral of Learning in Oakland to check out the Polish Festival. There will also be crafts and music but who are you kidding? You know you’ll be there for the pierogi, haluski and stuffed cabbage.  Want to walk off that full belly?  Head to Lawrenceville for the sixth annual Artists’ Studio Tour. This free self guided walking tour lets you check out artists working in a variety of media.  Download a map here or pick one up at Gallery on 43rd Street (187 43rd Street).  Tour attendees can also pick up a coupon for a discount on Quantum Theatre’s production of When the Rain Stops Falling at the Iron City Brewery in Lawrenceville through November 21.  This play has been getting rave reviews so don’t miss out!

Meet at 1pm sharp at the corner of 46th Street and Butler Street in Lawrenceville. We will hand out maps/clues and send teams off at 1pm — if you are late you will lose valuable clue-hunting time!

Form a team of up to 5 people. Friends busy that day? Come on your own and we’ll put you on a team of new friends. Bring one camera per team, and don’t forget a cable to download photos at the end. A pen/pencil might be helpful to write down answers.

The whole shebang should take around 4 hours. We’ll be clue hunting for 2 and 1/2 hours, then scoring, drinking, and awarding prizes! If the weather looks threatening, never fear – just grab your raincoat and your galoshes because we will be there rain or shine.
