I got to know to owner of Bondstreet Shoes when they first opened on Ellsworth Avenue in 2007. It was probably the first week that they had opened and I walked right in to check out the store and welcome owner Karsten Chorus to the neighborhood (I was working two doors down at the time). Karsten quickly became one of my favorite people to visit because of his appreciation of fashion and his great selection of European shoes. During one of those first visits I bought myfavorite pair of flat black knee boots with an optional rhinestone attachment. Trust me, they’re fabulous! A few months ago I was so happy to find out that Karsten would be moving Bondstreet Shoes up to Walnut Street for a prime spot in the former Cosmetique Destefino space. I was even happier to see that he brought his signature streamlined and chic European style into the space. Karsten, who is originally from Germany, exclusively carries the Llyod Germany line that features shoes and boots for men and women. I found out that Bondstreet Shoes is the only independent boutique in the whole world to carry the Lloyd women’s collection, the only other place it is available is through Lloyd flagship stores. Bondstreet also has the largest selection of the men’s collection other than Lloyd flagship stores. So, if you didn’t think Pittsburgh had any exclusive European designers, think again! In addition to many of the classic must-have styles, Bondstreet also carries some more fashion forward options, like a feathered black suede peep-toe bootie. Of course we all know boots of every shape, size and style are in this year but the style that seems to be popping up the most for women is suede ankle boots with cut outs or peep toes. You’ll find plenty of options here. Wondering how to brave Pittsburgh weather in cut out boots? Just add tights in classic black or a fun color or pattern. If for some crazy reason you aren’t in the mood for shoe shopping, Bondstreet also carries some accessories like scarves and great handbags. ** read more »

I am very very happy to have the Harris Grill back. If you are new to IheartPGH or to Pittbsurgh, the Harris Grill is a wonderful locally owned restaurant that has been closed since they had a fire last summer. The Harris is especially great for warm weather because they have two great big patios – that are perfect for outdoor dining and drinking.
We have blogged about this before (TGIB, November 2005). I was just back at the Harris Grill last week enjoying their amazing establishment … delightful outdoor seating delicious food – I heart baby burgers tasty beer delightful fire pit in winter – I hope you will bring this back again this fall super fun people who work there – my server Matt last week could not have been nicer But there is another reason to love this place, no it is not the awesome pictures on the menus (I hope someday that can be me), or the frozen cosmos (love those too). I was able to confirm that indeed, every Tuesday is still BACON NIGHT. Thats right kids, free baskets of bacon at the bar. I think there is a $1 charge to enjoy your bacon outside. I think you will agree $1 is a small price to pay for bacon with your beer on the patio.
Do you miss the cutting edge days of hip-hop music? Are you looking for refreshing, genre-bending musical artists? Do you think the local music scene consists solely of punk bands and really bad “spoken word” hipsters? Local jazz/hip-hop band Beam turns conventional hip-hop music on its head at their monthly gigs at the Pittsburgh Deli Company. From 10pm to midnight the first Friday of every month, at PDC in Shadyside, this 5 piece ensemble will blow your mind. Drummer David Throckmorton (aka Throck Ock) pounds out the classic breakbeats, uptempo jungle beats, spacey jazz rhythms, and funky rock n roll stylings and directs the free flowing improv between all five band members: bass player, “space bass” effects generator, dart-spittin MC, and champion DJ Supa C. These guys are amazing. They play a variety of composed hip-hop tunes and freeform improvisational psychedelic hip-hop that goes all over the map. Akil Esoon’s rhymes range from narrative gangsta fables to insightful political commentaries to playful party freestyles. Supa C’s DJing, scratching, cutting, and beat juggling skills perfectly compliment the funky rhythm section. As soon as Akil finishes spittin an ill verse, Supa C will start cutting up some classic ’90s vocals. Steve “Lantronics” Landay, orchestrator of the “space bass” rig, adds psychedelic soundscapes that give an extra layer to the music, rarely found in hip-hop. These guys are definately at THE TOP of the local music scene, producing sounds and styles you can’t hear anywhere else. It’s a hip-hop revolution right before your very eyes. It’s too bad PDC is such an “alterna-coffeeshop-crowd” and nobody dances! But they have fine beer selections, to be sure….
