Have you ever dreamed of celebrating Christmas Eve with the Steelers? If so, this year you might be able to make that dream a reality. Longstanding high-end Downtown retailer Larrimor‘s is giving away two tickets to the December 24th game against the St. Louis Rams! To enter, all you have to do is visit Larrimor’s on Facebook, become a fan, and leave a comment on their wall answering the following question: In a dream world, what one person would you bring with you to the game and why? Larrimor’s will provide the tickets, but can’t guarantee your dream guest. Fans are already dreaming up the perfect game next to their best friends, military husbands and in one case Johnny Depp. The winner will be selected at random, but why not be creative with your answer? There’s no harm in dreaming! Entries will be accepted until Wednesday, December 14th at noon. The winner will be announced on Thursday, December 15th on Larrimor’s Facebook page. Good luck!

This must be the year of great collaborations. I have been spending all morning finalizing some details for the Steelers Watching/Chevy Test Drive Party on Sunday – I will post all the details as soon as I get everything finalized. But I am also happy to share this event on Monday – which is another great collaboration – 3 local vintage businesses, Daffodil Vintage, Red Pop Shop, Crazy Hot Clothes are teaming up to throw a fashion show. Each of these businesses operates online from their homes here in Pittsburgh so this is a rare chance to check out their goods in person. All of this is also for a great cause – the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. So come on down to the Union Project on Monday evening – check out some amazing recycled fashion and gifts, support local businesses. There will be cookies and you can pretend to laugh at my jokes too – I am honored to be the master of ceremonies for this event (I will be spending the weekend brushing up my fashion vocabulary). The music will be excellent as DJ Gordy will be making the music selections for the evening.
I got to know to owner of Bondstreet Shoes when they first opened on Ellsworth Avenue in 2007. It was probably the first week that they had opened and I walked right in to check out the store and welcome owner Karsten Chorus to the neighborhood (I was working two doors down at the time). Karsten quickly became one of my favorite people to visit because of his appreciation of fashion and his great selection of European shoes. During one of those first visits I bought myfavorite pair of flat black knee boots with an optional rhinestone attachment. Trust me, they’re fabulous! A few months ago I was so happy to find out that Karsten would be moving Bondstreet Shoes up to Walnut Street for a prime spot in the former Cosmetique Destefino space. I was even happier to see that he brought his signature streamlined and chic European style into the space. Karsten, who is originally from Germany, exclusively carries the Llyod Germany line that features shoes and boots for men and women. I found out that Bondstreet Shoes is the only independent boutique in the whole world to carry the Lloyd women’s collection, the only other place it is available is through Lloyd flagship stores. Bondstreet also has the largest selection of the men’s collection other than Lloyd flagship stores. So, if you didn’t think Pittsburgh had any exclusive European designers, think again! In addition to many of the classic must-have styles, Bondstreet also carries some more fashion forward options, like a feathered black suede peep-toe bootie. Of course we all know boots of every shape, size and style are in this year but the style that seems to be popping up the most for women is suede ankle boots with cut outs or peep toes. You’ll find plenty of options here. Wondering how to brave Pittsburgh weather in cut out boots? Just add tights in classic black or a fun color or pattern. If for some crazy reason you aren’t in the mood for shoe shopping, Bondstreet also carries some accessories like scarves and great handbags. ** read more »

The first frost warning of the season has been issued for this evening and I bet you’ve already pulled out a few sweaters from those storage containers to prepare. While you’re lamenting the loss of those hot days and awful sunburns of summer 2010, you might come across some sweaters or jeans that just don’t fit anymore or perhaps that cute wool skirt doesn’t look as cute as it did last year. Be sure to save those items for the Redd Up Thread Up, a community clothing swap to benefit the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. Take your donations to the WYEP Community Broadcast Center Nov 1-5 and come to the Redd Up Thread Up on Saturday, November 6 from 12-5pm to discover “new” treasures and mingle with your neighbors. Local craft all-stars from the Pittsburgh Craft Collective and the I Made It! Market will be there providing upcycling demos to help you jazz up your old duds. If you donate at least one bag of clothing, you’ll receive one free event tote bag, printed by Commonwealth Press, to “shop” at the event. Additional tote bags can be purchased for $5. 100% of the proceeds from Redd Up Thread Up will go to the Women’s Center & Shelter. Be a fan of the Pittsburgh T-shirt on Facebook here – as we started talking about t-shirt day we realized there is alot of great Pittsburgh t-shirts and that we needed a place to collect all of that info. Share your favorite PGH t-shirts and check out some of the others. Check out the T-shirt Project – @MrDestructicity is wearing and documenting his t-shirt collection on Flickr. He lives in Pittsburgh and has some great Pittsburgh t-shirts too. And our favorite Pittsburgh sports blog, PSAMP (Pittsburgh Sports and Mini Ponies) runs an occasional series titled “Great Moments In Unlicensed Pittsburgh Sports Merch” that often features an amazing t-shirt like this incedibly confusing steelers shirt . Here is a sampling of some other great Pittsburgh t-shirts … Neighbor Teaze - has lots of Pittsburgh love – check out this t-shirt “Pittsburgh, 446 Bridges, 3 Rivers and 1 Dahntahn Since 1758” and there are many others for specific Pittsburgh neighborhoods.
