could take her to that dark room in the mattress factory, where you have to wait for 15 minutes in black for your eyes to focus

or under the t-rex at the museum of natural history

or on that boat in the river that takes people to the bucs games

If your lady loves the zoo, take her there. You will have purchased a stuffed animal of her faorite creature at the zoo beforehand. Upon getting to that part of the zoo, present her with the stuffed animal, wearing the ring on a velvet ribbon around it's neck.

OR, have a photo taken of you on your knee proposing. Have the photo enlarged and turned into a jigsaw puzzle. Be sure the part of the photo with the ring on it is not in the box. When trying to complete the puzzle, you will have the missing piece with the ring on top of it. Of course, you have taken your lady on a picnic, and you are doing the puzzle after lunch.

Congratulations and best of luck!!!

I had friends get engaged on the overlook at Mt. Washington as well, although for whatever reason I think that using the fountain at Point State Park is a good route too.

If this person is able to wait, there's always light up night or once Kayak Pittsburgh opens up, could be cool to get engaged on the rivers (though hard to get on one knee)

I was one of those people who got engaged on the overlook on Mt. Washington, and it was wonderful and amazing. Even though it's a very common place to get engaged in the 'Burgh, it still makes me feel like that fantastic view belongs to us in a very special way.

There's also always the sporting event scoreboard route - if our friend can wait until March I'm quite certain PNC Park would be compliant, I've seen proposals there before, and the ballpark is a romantic place, especially with that view. If he doesn't want to wait until opening day, a Pens game would work too - though I would personally find Civic Arena a little less romantic than PNC.

I hope we get follow-up on this - I want to hear how it goes!

When I was proposed to, he did a scavenger hunt around town of important places we had visited when we were dating. Admittedly, this was in another city, but it cold work well here. The places were where we went on our first date, where we had our first kiss, where we went for a festival, etc. He left a card at each place (at the restaurant with the hostess, at the park as several fliers tacked around the park). The last place was a rose garden and when I saw him standing there, I knew he was going to propose. It was all very romantic.

Actually, I year ago my recently new son-in-law proposed to my daughter. They went away overnight (she thought it might be happening when they went away) but it didn't. When they arrived home and walked through the door she saw a table with a candle and a pretty box inside the box was a love letter which told her to go find the next box which he had set up in another room. She went to that box and again a small love note which told her to go to the next box again another love note- at the 4th table he had a box with four different rings in it - each ring was in a box. The 3 rings were all joke rings ( light up ring-kids, one you could open and had lip gloss and the 3rd was a huge fake diamond) In that note he told her she could choose one and she should choose wisely then he grabbed the real ring and was down on one knee proposing -she loved it and so did all her friends.

When I first set foot in Pittsburgh, the admissions person from Carlow took me up the incline to Mt. Washington overlooks. And she said, a lot of people get engaged here. I have at least one friend who did indeed do that. Dinner at LaMont, a walk over to the overlook...it's the best skyline in the country, or so I've heard. Best of luck to the lucky couple.

If I were the recipient, I'd love a whole day of Pittsburgh things. I'd love an incline ride to Mt Wasington with with lunch at the Coal Hill Steakhouse, near the large window, or out on the patio if appropraite. I'd enjoy time spent at Point State Park and/or at the Natural History Museum or Science Center. I'm a big Clemente nut, so a proposal near the Clemente bridge or the Clemente statue at PNC would reduce me to blubbering tears. A proposal on the incline also sounds kind of neat.

But, not knowing the woman, who's to say. What are her favorite places or events in the city? Can some of them be combined into a whole day affair?
