More fun history. The Flax Scutching festival is held the 2nd weekend in September, is one of the longest running festivals. They have been celebrating the scutching of flax each year since 1907. Save the date to attened the 102th festival next September.

scutching is the process of separating the good parts of flax that you might want to use for weaving from the bad parts that you don't need.
