Girls. Rock. Camp.

May 28, 2008 Lindsay

I have had this on my calendar and the IheartPGH calendar ever since I saw the preview in the Pittsburgh Filmmaker’s email last month. Through June 5, 2008 the Harris Theaters is showing the documentary Girls Rock! – a documentary about a week long rock and roll camp for girls in Portland Oregon.

The film has received some rave reviews from papers and bloggers alike. Blogger and Filmmaker, Thea Newcomb, write the blog SoYouveBeenDumped.com. She watched the film while she was here in Pittsburgh last week – click here to see her post about the film and Pittsburgh. I think she was in Pittsburgh filming some footage for her documentary which is about people who have been dumped. I must say it is a little ironic serendipity to write a blog post about a camp that is all about empowering girls and a documentary about being dumped. Thea – let us know when your film comes to Pittsburgh.

The film will be showing through June 5, 2008 at the Harris Theater – more info here.

Just saw this movie last night, and we absolutely loved it! Fantastic to see the great work that these women do running the camp, and I love to see what the girls come up with in the intense camp environment.
