Free admission for green drinkers at the Warhol

March 14, 2007 Lindsay

Nope, sorry, not a St. Patrick’s Day promotion. Pittsburgh Green Drinks is a monthly happy hour for anyone interested in the environment. This month’s Green Drinks is extra great. I have long been fascinated with Andy Warhol’s time capsules, so I think meeting a Warhol Archivist is a treat. Free admission to the Warhol is another great reason to go green this Friday.

Here are the Details:
WHAT: Green Drinks
WHERE
: Warhol Museum
WHEN
: Friday, March 16, 5:30-7:30
COST
: Free Admission, Cash Bar
HOSTS
: Matt Wrbican, The Warhol’s Archivist, Patty DeMarco, Executive Director of the Rachel Carson Homestead Association

Join us for a Green Drinks at The Warhol, where the exhibition, “6 BILLION PERPS HELD HOSTAGE! Artists Address Global Warming” is currently on view. Matt Wrbican, The Warhol’s Archivist and exhibition Curator, will discuss the exhibit, and its part in the Rachel Carson Centennial Celebration.

“6 BILLION PERPS…â€Â? is a collection of works by Andy Warhol and contemporary artists, including The Yes Men, Preemptive Media, Jay Critchley, The Institute For Figuring, Hugo Kobayashi, Trevor Paglen, Marjetica Potrc, Cai Guo-Qiang, Greg Kwiatek, Bobby Pickett and Horseback Salad, Steffi Domike-Suzy Meyer-Ann Rosenthal, and Bob Bingham.Patty DeMarco, Executive Director of the Rachel Carson Homestead Association, will also be on hand to discuss the year long celebration of Rachel Carson’s legacy.Matt and Patty will speak at Green Drinks on Friday, March 16, at The Warhol, located at 117 Sandusky Street, on the North Shore, Pittsburgh, 15212, at 5:30 PM.Admission is free when you let the folks at the door know you are there for Green Drinks!
Bring your friends and colleagues to hear about the this showcase of a diverse collection of art works, including textiles, videos, paintings, drawings, inflatables, photography and music, all directing attention to the topic of global warming. These works serve to raise awareness of our current state of affairs, including U.S. policy, natural disasters, the destructive power of corporations, and the harmful effects of carbon production in the food industry as well as initiate public dialog about the issue. Meet others who share a common interest – join environmentalists, journalists, academics, elected officials, green builders, green businesses and health care professionals, chemists, developers, artists, students and just about anyone who is interested in a better Pittsburgh environment. It’s a great way of catching up with people you know and for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organizing network.

Pittsburgh Green Drinks meets on the 3rd Friday of each month from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at rotating locations. Mark the date in your calendar, and we’ll email you each month with the location and the speaker.
